Misdemeanors and Gross Misdemeanors

These are crimes that are generally prosecuted in District and Municipal Courts punishable by jail time and a fine. Other possible consequences include license suspension, applicable treatments, loss of right to bear arms.  

A Misdemeanor offense carries a maximum penalty of up to 90 days in jail and/or a $1000 fine.  

A Gross Misdemeanor offense carries a maximum penalty of up to 1 year in jail and/or a $5000 fine.  

Examples include: DUI / Assault 4/ Trespassing/ Disorderly Conduct / Driving Suspended / Minor in Possession of Alcohol / Possession of Marijuana (less than 40 grams), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
